Week 17 of 2018 Super Rugby Season: ACT Brumbies v Hurricanes Game Review

Both the Brumbies & Hurricanes played attacking and direct approach of Rugby last night at GIO Stadium in Canberra, Australia.

But one team have to be the winner at the end of the 80th minute, let’s find out.

1st Half

The Brumbies got their line-out right, but the Hurricanes have stolen a march only three minutes into the match.

Joe Powell, who plays as Scrum-Half & just signed a contract extension with the Brumbies, made a mistake with a pass from no support to his team-mates.

Instead, you see TJ Perenara jumping out with an intercept try for the Hurricanes at the right time.

Four Minutes later, Brumbies wasted little time to close in on the Hurricanes.

The home team looked gentle & patient with nine phases built in play.

Fantastic quick hands from David Pocock where he fed that offload to Kyle Godwin.

And Godwin gave himself that flexibility to spread out wide & touch one home for the TRY.

Though, the Brumbies are two points short of the lead by the visitors.

Hurricanes are again great in attacking play in the 14th minute.

Eight phases in play & the Hurricanes have another steady build up to demolish the Brumbies defense.

Nice cut out from Jordie Barrett at the right time with the direction from TJ Perenara.

J. Barrett found his wing man towards Julian Savea where he finishes the stand-off past Joe Powell on the outside for the second five-point dash.

HALF-TIME: Brumbies 5-12 Hurricanes

2nd Half

The Hurricanes tried their best to spoil Brumbies’ attacking bid to secure another TRY.

But the Brumbies stamped their second try with the help of the front rowers.

Folau Fainga’a kept his body height nice and low with the help of his team-mates.

That enabled Fainga’a to touch the ball down safely rather than letting it go loose in the hands of the opposition.

The extra two-point kick from Christian Lealiifano looked successful this time.

Thy now ties 12-12 with the Hurricanes.

The Brumbies have the upper hand now in the 57th minute.

They’re staying square by driving the maul forward & not forcing a collapse as Folau Fainga’a kept the possession alive.

Two phases in and the Hurricanes held Fainga’a down only meters away from the danger area.

But, look at the tall second rower from Rory Arnold, he maintains himself down low where no one couldn’t stop him for that TRY.

Great defense from Jordie Barrett & Wes Goosen to deny Andy Muirhead’s try.

With nine minutes left, Andy Muirhead may have passed Jordie Barrett & Wes Goosen for the run home.

But outstanding defense from the Hurricanes where both J. Barrett & Goosen held Murihead high by not letting him touch the ball down.

It demonstrated that Kiwi teams in Super Rugby are sharper, quicker & punchier when it comes to picking the best out of the All Blacks talent pool.

With the advantage from the Brumbies, Muirhead sails home this time with delight from the fans.

However, for one night, it has to be the Brumbies way fair & square at home.

Muirhead overcomes the Hurricanes defense second time lucky on the left-hand side with the Brumbies fourth & final try of the match.

FULL-TIME: Brumbies 24-12 Hurricanes

The ACT Brumbies have no more home games, for now, this season.

They have the final two games before the Playoffs arrive away from GIO Stadium.

Next Saturday’s match will be at FMG Stadium in Waikato, New Zealand at 3.15 PM AEST.

And you can catch the game LIVE in your home of Rugby, FOX Sports.
