Round 5, Game 3 of the 2018 National Rugby Championship Brisbane City v Queensland Country for the Andy Purcell Cup at Sci-Fleet Stadium

Filipo Daugunu made a great start by running towards the far right-hand side on the left wing.

And it proved too easy when Daugunu fed the ball & helped Stewart secure QLD Country’s first five points.

Adam Korczyk immediately replied with a bullet point set piece on the run home.

Great hands from both Quade Cooper & Karmichael Hunt in helping out the Brisbane City attack.

And the way they build up structure enabled Korczyk to execute City’s instant response.

Although, QLD Country further pulled off the lead from Brisbane City.

Efi Ma’afu managed to stay down low with the fantastic footwork by slipping past the City defense for the five points.

Brisbane City took advantage through the aggressive offside tackle from Hamish Stewart.

With the true line-out and maul, Con Foley & Quade Cooper tied QLD Country on the scoreboard via the converted TRY.

It’s a blow for QLD Country having seen Hamish Stewart sit out for ten minutes.

And it went worse when Jock Campbell had difficulties releasing the ball. Hence, QLD Country conceded the penalty through a tight wall from Brisbane City.

In return, The successful penalty kick from Quade Cooper helped City take over the lead by three points.

Just before half-time, Brisbane City built another solid attacking structure.

Karmichael Hunt almost came close at one time through the two big passes from Quade Cooper & Con Foley.

But Scott Gale helped Matt Gordon complete the set-piece reward.

2nd Half

QLD Country bounced immediately when the whistle blew just after the break.

Duncan Paia’aua held his feet on the far left-hand side before Tom Lucas touched down for the TRY.

Fantastic work from Sam Wallis & Jaye Thompson-Te Muunu in spreading out wide the attack.

Nathan Den Hoedt held the ruck at the right time before touched one in down low.

Den Hoedt’s five-point score plus Q. Cooper’s conversion extended the City’s lead to 29 overall points.

Jordan Petaia first fed to Hamish Stewart before he cuts through inside ball & helped Tate McDermott via the flick pass to still keep QLD Country in the reckoning for the five points.

Don’t forget Stewart added two more points via the conversion.

Tom Kibble joined the ruck at the wrong time by holding up the ball.

In return, Quade Cooper had no problem kicking on any angle as Brisbane City gets the three points.

Even without Ruan Smith to multiple injuries*, Sean Farrell managed to keep the ball through the driving maul before he found the gap on the run home.

Quade Cooper’s another 2nd successful kick in the last 40 gave QLD Country a tough ask.

Even with the attempt for the consolation TRY, QLD Country had a tough day in the office.
