2018-19 Domain Tests: Day 4 of 2nd Test Afternoon & Conclusion Session Review, Australia v Sri Lanka in Canberra

Jhye Richardson immediately continued work to help Australia reach the home stretch.

He first captured Sri Lanka’s 6th wicket loss of Dhananjaya De Silva on six.

It’s the in-swinging ball coming in straight towards the stumps at high speed.

And that’s what made De Silva whack without moving the feet under pressure in the middle as Travis Head took the catch at mid-on.

Kusal Mendis and Chamika Karunaratne kept the Aussies quiet for a while.

But Marnus Labuschagne had the last laugh when he denied Mendis his possible 50 on 42.

It’s a full and straight ball pitching towards the keeper’s gloves before Mendis only reached out for the shot.

For Mendis, he didn’t go close enough to make his shot powerful where Kurtis Patterson took the catch at short extra cover.

Pat Cummins too added Sri Lanka’s 8th wicket loss having bowled a decent length while keeping the speed straight.

C. Karunaratne seems not to move at all when he only let his bat whack early before Tim Paine took the catch.

Cummins drove to only one wicket closer towards winning the Test for Australia.

It’s a full and straight ball at high speed closer to the off stump before Dilruwan Perera (4) edged straight to Paine’s gloves.

And Mitchell Starc completed the 2nd Test with a cleanly bowled delivery towards the stumps on Vishwa Fernando.

Final Score: Sri Lanka 149 & Australia win by 366 runs

Australia wraps the series with a 2-0 whitewash win to regain the Warne-Muralitharan Trophy for the 4th time.

Though, 2016 was the only tour when they lost this trophy after a 3-0 whitewash v Sri Lanka overseas.

The home team won’t play a Test between now and August 1 when they v England on their home turf.

Sri Lanka who lost both matches now head off to South Africa for Two Tests, Five One-Dayers & Three Twenty20 Games.

Mitchell Starc gets the man of the match through his ten-wicket haul in this Test:

  • 5/54 in the 2nd Innings
  • 5/46 in the 4th Innings

And fellow Australian team-mate, Pat Cummins swoops in as the Man of the Series.
